Family-run contractor adds heating and cooling as demand surges
Don’s Electric, a family-owned electrical contractor serving metro Detroit for more than 35 years, is plugging into a new chapter: heating and cooling.
The company built its reputation on electrical repairs, residential and commercial service, and Generac home backup generators. Now, after years of customer requests, the team has launched a heating and cooling division to round out its whole-home support.
“I started my electrical business 35 years ago with the intent of working with my family,” said Don Gabbard, president of Don’s Electric. He appeared on “Live in the D.” “Today, we’re a full-service, family-owned contractor – with sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandkids in the mix, plus many others we consider family.”
Don’s Electric is among the area’s largest Generac dealers and installers, and the company continues to lean into practical, money-saving advice. The team recommends smart thermostats – such as Ecobee, which integrates with Generac – to automatically adjust settings when you’re away. The company also suggested swapping furnace filters once or twice a year, and upgrading to LED lighting with dimmers, motion sensors and outdoor timers to cut energy use.
“We’re really excited about our new heating and cooling division,” Aaron Gabbard, chief operating officer – and Don’s son – told Live In The D. “There was such a demand from our customers that we said, ‘Let’s do this,’ and it’s working.”
